Move In

houyse-080224-8.JPG

Even though everything is not 100% done we decided to move back in anyway, which we will be doing this week. We got tired of living out of boxes in the rental house and would rather work be around the unfinished work while having items in their permanent locations then keep having to unpack boxes knowing we have to repack them again. Eda took this round of pictures while I was busy working on something else.

Finished floor and installed appliances.

houyse-080223-8.jpg

The surface of the wood floor is finished and the kitchen ovens, refrigerator, range, and dishwasher appliances are all installed, just not completely working (a few minor items like ELECTRICITY and PLUMBING). The sable finish on the wood floor is definitely darker then ebony (who'd a thunk it).

Mallards in the early morning fog.

lake-080218-5-.jpg
I can't make up my mind about whether I like this photo or not (maybe if I crop it some), so I've added it here and you can decide. I do know what thoughts went through my mind as I was taking it:
1. Don't move.
2. Where's my shotgun?
3. If this was N.D. they would be gone already.
4. Hmm, that reminds me I need to get a longer lense for skittish wildlife, so I don't have to get this close in order to take the shot.

This photo just happened as I was working on the following scenic/fine arts fluff shot.

Early morning fog

I've been waiting for this shot for a few months now. Finally, the weather conditions and lighting were right one morning, on the way to work, for me to stop and take this photo.
I was trying to capture the shoreline with this lakes total calmness during a fog, the fog is what took me so long to take the picture.

The home stretch.

glasstile-20080216-1.jpg

The house is coming through the home stretch, I'm finding this to be the hardest part of the project for me (not that I'm doing anything other then looking at it ;-P). This latest batch of images covers everything from the glass tiles, new hallway cabinets, vanity & bowl sink, kitchen cabinet doors installed, through interior and exterior shots of the arbor and glass doors without the plastic covering.

Mardi Gras at Chez Davis

red-velvet.jpg

We had a good ol' time at Chez Davis ... Hurricanes, Turducken, Alligator.. mmm.. and cake! Thanks for a great party. The food was flying off the table. I didn't even get a chance to take a picture of the turducken. And I barely got a shot of the cake with the phone. Phew.

Say cheese ...

bread.jpg

Yesterday (Sunday) morning I was IM'ing with J ...

J: "what are you doing for Superbowl?"
me: "we are going to Doug's... but I don't know what to make! what are you making?"
J: "salad, gotta make sure they get their veggies"
me: "er. salad won't go over in this crowd"
J: "(in less than 2 seconds) http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/007126super_bowl_recipes.php"

And there you have it. This is the plate of 'leftover' from yesterday. I can feel my artery clogging. :)

The wall of glass

house-080202-69.jpghouse-080202-72.jpg There has been some slippage in the project timeline, but it's still coming along nicely. Staining and laquering is nearly complete. I am really happy with the way the folding doors turned turned out and with Eda's choice of stain color.
